Hand lettering is a skill that can be easy to learn but difficult to master. To achieve lettering mastery requires a working knowledge of typography, design, and letterforms. Besides the mental benefits of learning how to hand letter,, it’s satisfying to create something beautiful and tangible, and there’s also something captivating about watching people create videos of their calligraphy.
Starting from a simple pencil sketch I then inked in my lettering and then scanned that into Adobe Illustrator to be able to create a vector illustration from my lettering. Once inside illustrator I added the gradient sky background and the other elements that make this design look and feel like a poster or flyer for a music festival. I then went on to use that design to create buttons/pins that can be popular at music festivals, paper admission wrist bands, and T-shirts and sweatshirts with different variations of the Southern Nights design.
What is a script typeface? Script typefaces are based upon the varied and often fluid stroke created by handwriting. They are generally used for display or trade printing, rather than for extended body text. Script fonts are a personal favorite of mine and are a good choice when choosing a display font for a design
